Handling Preferences in Negotiation Dialogue Frames
نویسندگان
چکیده
Complex argumentation-based interaction can be characterised by a rich model of inter-agent communication based upon the construct of a dialogue frame. This approach is shown to have computational benefits and can be easily extended to include models of agents’ preferences. The process of negotiation is founded upon the notion of compromise and this comes about as a result of agents’ preferences: an agent may be willing to make concessions if in so doing, preferred states of affairs obtain. This paper explores a formal approach to representing such preference criteria, and the means by which evaluation of potential contracts can be carried out. The resulting system supports sophisticated negotiation processes involving evidentially supported contracts and multilateral bidding.

Modelling user preferences is crucial in many real-life problems, ranging from individual and collective decision-making to strategic interactions between agents for example. But handling preferences is not easy. Since agents don’t come with their preferences transparently given in advance, we have only two means to determine what they are if we wish to exploit them in reasoning: we can infer t...

Learning Better Trading Dialogue Policies by Inferring Opponent Preferences: (Extended Abstract)
Negotiation dialogue capabilities have been identified as important in a variety of application areas. In prior work, it was shown how Reinforcement Learning (RL) agents can learn to use implicit and explicit manipulation moves in dialogue to manipulate their adversaries in non-cooperative trading games. We now show that trading dialogues are more successful when the RL agent builds an opponent...
متن کاملDialogue Frames in Agent Communication
Sophisticated models of inter-agent communication are making increasing use of intuitive notions of persuasion and negotiation. In this paper, a formal characterisation is provided which not only clearly distinguishes persuasion from negotiation, but also introduces three other dialogue types, and sets all five in a coherent framework. The notion of a dialogue frame is introduced, and is used t...

We present the evaluation of the most recent version of the Dutch ARISE train timetable information system. The original version of this spoken dialogue system has been adjusted according to the findings of two user tests [1,2]. The new version applies a mixture of implicit and explicit confirmation of information items, based on confidence measures. In addition, the negotiation part of the dia...
